Poker anyone?

Now that I have your attention... Defining the rules of the washers game has been similar to a poker game. Depending on where, or who you are playing with, rules can be called out in various ways. It is to bad there are no set official set of rules given.

I am building an octagon one hole game. As a newbie building my first game the rules seem to be whatever you want it to be. I read two, three, or four washers can be used. Distance can be any range from 10-40 feet. Measurements can be from the front of the game, or can be from cup center to cup center. Some say 25 feet, some say 21 feet. Points scored can be 3 and 1, or 3, 2, and 1. Points can be cancelled out, not cancelled out. Cups can be 3", must be 4", or the official 4.5". Washer sizes can vary from 2"-3"+, and a bunch of other variations.

If you are still reading this, thanks for letting me vent on my own. I guess I will just make up my own rules, and throw the washers toward the cup. I just wanted to find an official game rule that everyone agrees on. Just like poker, who ever calls the game, that is the rule for the day.

I think until the game becomes mainstreamed you will continue to see a variance in the rules.
I am contemplating changing my own rules where last washer in the box gets the points to the "canceling out" rule that was posted here.

Where do we start with this can of worms? You playing one hole, two hole, three hole.....washers, washeroos, hillbilly horseshoes, polish horseshoes (what I was told the name of the game was).... flat board, slanted board, no board, boxes and what dimensions, just a hole in the ground and so on and so on. What a tangled web we weave. Just take the rules that work the best for you and make sure everyone knows the rules your using (house rules) and don't take offense if someone tells you your wrong listen to their rule and if it makes the game better then go with it, besides they're all wrong unless they're MY RULES.
If a washer falls into the hole and no one's around to see it does it still count?

MAking rules for this is difficult as, as stated before we all make our boards differently.

But you are right, as tournaments become more and more popular there will have to be some kind of standarisation of the rules.

I make my own board, so i doubt it fits any specs... and i doubt at this stage i currently care !
